The Air Training Corps

The Air Training Corps is a voluntary youth organization supported by the Royal Air Force. The ATC provides cadets, aged between the age of 13 and 20, with the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, which are both enjoyable and challenging. These activites range from flying & gliding, RAF Station Visits, and camps to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and various levels of sport.

The Air Training Corps aims to:

1. Promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.
2. Provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.
3. Foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

The current strength of the ATC is about 35,000 cadets, helping it to be one of the country's premier youth organizations and the world's largest youth air training organization. Not only does the ATC have support from the RAF, but HRH Prince Philip is the Corps' Commododore-in-Chief, and takes a keen interest in the organization and its members, especially as the ATC is the largest operator of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
